Problem Solving

I’ve had 30 years of practice solving puzzles in the laboratory and in research, and these skills can translate into any kind of problem solving that requires a logical, data-driven approach. The fact that I am an outsider to fields other than biology makes me a more valuable creative thinker for your applications, not less- I have a different point of view and fresh takes on your problems, and I can help you come up with unique ways to approach and solve your issues.

Don’t know what to do with that massive amount of data you’ve been sitting on? You need to approach the problem with the mindset of a scientist- you have finite resources and time, so what data do you really need, and what can you find out from the data you already have? Chances are good that you can do some simple experiments and figure out new uses of data that you already have, or can easily collect in future. More data is often worse, not better, than picking the data that you really need, and focusing on what you want to find out. Do you need help designing and carrying out such experiments? I can show you how to do it, and it’s simpler and less expensive than you might think.

Do you have a clear idea of what you need to do and the steps required to get there with your data collection and analysis, or do you need help focusing on exactly what you need, when you need it, and how to manage it? I can help with that, too, and assist in the concept-level design of digital threads- streams of information- in your workplace. (note: I’m not a programmer).

I am currently contemplating a book about data-driven problem solving, and if your problem sounds interesting enough, perhaps I will use it as an example in my book (with permission)! Right now I am focused on other creative projects, but helping people think logically and creatively about how to use the data they have access to, or can collect easily, is fun for me.
